Teaching for All: Accommodating Learners with Disability and Chronic Medical Conditions


This workshop is part of the University of Utah’s inaugural Disability and Chronic Medical Conditions Awareness Week (established by a student group called Chronically Us). The target audience is instructors who want to create inclusive, safe, effective, and respectful learning environments for all. A speaker from the Center for Disability and Access will review the processes and policies, as outlined by state and federal law, that ensure reasonable accommodation to students. A designer from University Connected Learning will discuss the principles of universal design and classroom technologies that can enhance accessibility for all learners. The student panelists will share their experiences navigating university with a disability or chronic medical condition, what specific challenges and barriers they face, and how instructors can both amplify and ameliorate these barriers.
