GTI 2026

Information about our 2026 Graduate Teaching Institute will be announced in Spring 2026! Check back on this page for further information later.

What is the Graduate Teaching Institute (GTI)?

The Graduate Teaching Institute, hosted and facilitated by the Center for Teaching Excellence, is a 4-day, in-person intensive for graduate instructors ready to learn best teaching and learning practices. CTE consultants will assist with everything from designing online class activities, assignments and rubrics, and building resources in the university's learning management system, Canvas. Each day we present a variety of teaching approaches and engage attendees in discussion and activities, with opportunities to engage with individuals from a variety of disciplines.

CTE is happy to return to the fundamentals of pedagogy, beginning with the question: What makes good teaching?

The Graduate Teaching Institute is free for all graduate instructors at the University of Utah, and geared toward those without a formal background in pedagogy and teaching. Graduate instructors who attend and participate in all sessions will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
